United Hub hosted its second Asian Elderly Luncheon today at Tianfu Chunqiu restaurant in Redmond, building on the success of the Thanksgiving event. Held within walking distance of senior housing and the park-and-ride, the gathering provided an accessible and festive environment for elderly community members to connect and celebrate during the holiday season.


Objective

The luncheon aimed to strengthen community resilience by creating an inclusive space where seniors could enjoy cultural traditions, express their creativity, and foster meaningful connections.

Event Highlights

1. Calligraphy and Cultural Gifts

• A local calligraphy artist performed live demonstrations, crafting beautiful and meaningful writings of fortune, luck, health, and longevity. Each guest received a personalized piece to take home as a cherished keepsake, adding a thoughtful touch to the celebration.

• Guests signed in using traditional calligraphy, creating a unique and artistic start to the event.


2. Performances and Activities

• Attendees showcased their talents with singing, model walks, and flute performances, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere.

• A local photographer provided portrait services, offering participants a treasured memento of the day.

3. Delicious Cuisine

Tianfu Chunqiu restaurant served a variety of traditional Asian dishes, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of the community.

Volunteers and Community Impact

Volunteers played a vital role in organizing and running the event. Inspired by the heartwarming interactions and the joy among attendees, many expressed a renewed commitment to community service.

A Legacy of Service

United Hub has a long history of providing community services, and this luncheon is part of a growing series of events aimed at fostering resilience and inclusion. With this second successful gathering since Thanksgiving, United Hub is paving the way for many more meaningful initiatives to come.


It so happened that the young people who were in college came back for the holidays. In spite of the fatigue of traveling, they devoted themselves enthusiastically to volunteering at the event. Making the elders happy brought smiles to their faces too.
